Driving to Gulu

We started the long drive yesterday morning from Kampala in the south to Gulu in the north. While the roads were better than most in Liberia, it felt like forever. Fortunately, I'm still between Boston time and Uganda time, so I dozed in and out of consciousness a lot of the way.

Some sights from the road:
Kampala skyline

Outdoor market

Pine trees... in Africa?

Ugandan equivalent of KFC

My room in Gulu

Today, we walked around town and went to the office (more pictures to come). I definitely didn't need to bring so much stuff. They have everything and more in town. The weather is also a lot nicer than expected... not too humid, not too hot. Well, I guess that's it for now. :)

Amsterdam Airport

Well, my flight is delayed. They forgot something kind of important... The plane. So we're waiting for them to track one down. I think I've seen one or two around here.

While I wait, here are some pictures from this spectacle of an airport:
Water massage... Probs gonna want one of these on the way back

Foot massage... By fish. (Or one of these.)

Adorable teacup seating. (Despite the blurry picture)

Museum of Dutchiness

Dutchy food!

And, of course, CLOGS!

Now, if only they could track down a plane.

On my way!

I can't believe this day is here! It still doesn't feel real. I'm currently in the Amsterdam airport, which is the most extravagant airport I think I've ever been in. They have a mall, a casino, a museum, and among the many food options: Bread, and Say Cheese. This will be much appreciated on the return flight!

I'm pretty sure God put a blessing on the zippers of my bags. I have no idea how they haven't busted open yet. My carry on is heavier than my check-in.. meaning it's at least 50 pounds. That was, er, fun getting into the overhead. Well, I'm sure it was fun for the people watching me.

Dino is keeping me company. He was a little nervous at first, but I think his fears are now extinct... **buh dum clash**  :)

I can't wait to just get to Uganda, meet the kids, and get started! Thank you so much to everyone who supported me in prayers or financially. I am so blessed to have each of you in my life and am amazed by your generous and loving hearts. They do not go unappreciated. I'll try to keep everyone updated on what I'm up to.

Now, it's time for an adventure.
